I Ren Faire, You Ren Faire...We all Ren Faire!

I've always found one of the greatest inspirations for writing is actually very simple...just live your life. Go do things. Learn new things. Have amazing experiences. Make your life an adventure.
So, in my lifelong effort to have wonderful and inspiring experiences, I went to a Renaissance Fair. If you've never been...go...go now. It is nothing short of awesome; expensive and cheesy, sure, but let's put that aside. Just go, munch on an $8 turkey leg, see a joust (complete with a whip of fire), and breathe in the essence of the very Renaissance era, fake as it may be.
You could purchase a weird looking furby shoulder puppet. Katy named her's Neiman, by the way...or maybe it was Bilbo. I was too distracted by bosoms popping out of corsets and men wearing tight tights to pay attention.

Or you could enjoy some phallic shaped foods...as Sara and Katy did, perhaps a bit too much.

You can catch a joust...an absolute must! Our knight was the first to go, but we didn't let his demise or pathetic fighting kills dim our fervor. Cheer and cheer loudly...demand blood!

And last but not least, leave all your inhibitions at home and have a blast. Buy a corset (not for the budget conscious, I gasped and slowly backed out of the store upon seeing the prices), buy yourself a sword (again gasp worthy) or buy yourself mug for the all important ale...that's what I ended up getting for a sort of "reasonable' price, but for some reason it makes everything taste better. Dance to the Celtic drum music. Laugh at inappropriate jokes. Taste the King's nuts...yes they're an actual thing. Have an adventure. Have an amazing experience.

Vampire book done...Bring on the sunlight!

Finally finished the vampire novel I've been working on!

Oh my goodness, y'all don't know how happy this makes me. It's taken way longer than I've expected. It's the reason I've been MIA lately and it's the reason this little lady is sleep deprived and now has caffeine for blood. But it's done! It's called Becoming Eden, and I'll post the summary later...once I've written it. Although, I hate summaries, always have, so it may take a little while. Now I shall celebrate and sleep for a week, then get my butt back in gear writing book 5 of the Protectors Saga.

Writing breakthrough - finally stopped typing my main character's name in my new book as 'Avery'. Old habits die hard.
Looking forward to actually being able to type 'Avery' as my main character again, tho. Soon...very soon.

Yes, Avery and Jade have a playlist too!

Basically there are three main love stories in the Protectors Saga. There's Dravery, there's Eryk and Jade, and there's Avery and Jade. And to be honest, Avery and Jade are arguably the strongest. It's a platonic love, it's a sisterly love, and it really is an unconditional love...and I love writing that! So to sometimes set that tone for my writing, I listen to a few tunes. Below are some of those songs. If you want, look them up and listen to them loudly :)

Writing Update

Just a little update to let everyone know what's going on. I am currently super busy writing my next book. It's a Paranormal/Vampire/Supernatural book with some romance thrown in...because let's face it every book needs some romance. I basically started writing this book because I needed to step away from my Protectors series, just for a little bit. I felt like I needed to re-fall in love with writing it. And boy have I! I found that through writing the book I'm currently working on, it made me really want to get back to writing the Protectors. This isn't saying I don't love the story I'm working on right now, because I do, I really do. I love the main character and the flow and I can't wait to get it out there so people can read it, but I miss Avery, Jade, Orcatia, and especially Draven. Writing about them again will be a complete treat!
So, this has just been a wee writing update. I've gotten the first few chapters of book 5 in the Protectors Saga written and am excited to get back to it. I don't like setting deadlines because I find it hard to keep them, but I'm pretty confident the book will be out sometime in the summer.
As for my next book to be released, it's tentatively being called 'Becoming Eden'. Like I said it's a Paranormal/Vampire/Supernatural/Romance story, and I'll tell y'all more about it in the near future. Till then, thanks for reading.

Dravery Has a Playlist

I think most writers have a playlist or maybe even just one or two songs they play to help them get in a certain mood for writing, help them write a certain scene. And I am no different. In fact, I live for the writing playlist. My stories would be nothing without them and my scenes, I feel, would lack something. So, if any of you lovely readers are interested, I have compiled a few of the songs I use when I'm writing Dravery scenes. I hope you enjoy them or even feel like listening to one or two before reading a scene you enjoy. I also have playlists for Avery and Jade scenes, battle scenes, Jade and Eryk scenes, and many others. Told you - I am a music junkie - the withdrawal is terrible. I promise to share some more playlists in the near future, and in the meantime I'm busy working on the 5th book and my little vampire novel. Now onto the playlist -

DRAVERY'S Playlist
1) The Haunting by Anberlin
2) Blind by Placebo
3) Cut by Plumb
4) Poison & Wine by The Civil Wars
5) Desire by Ryan Adams
6) Nicest Thing by Kate Nash
7) Lucky by Biff Naked
8) Take Me As You Found Me by Anberlin
9) Howl by Florence and the Machine
10) All the Way 4 U by Poets of the Fall

Bean Cakes and Parasols

Just a little life update for all my lovely readers. Over the weekend I attended Matsuri, or the Japanese Festival of Arizona. Two friends of mine were in a fashion show where they modeled different variations of traditional Japanese kimonos, and they did a fantastic job. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have been able to breathe, let alone move in the beautiful, but crazy binding outfits. Here's a little pic of me with the two of them in all their awesomeness. Yes, I'm the stubby little one in the middle.
So after watching a fashion show, a drumming show, and a dance show, I was left feeling incredibly inspired, if not grossly untalented. The stirrings for a Japanese themed paranormal romance began forming in my mind, but before I could fully work it out, I realized my pale vampire flesh was beginning to an unflattering shade of pink, so my friend and I went and purchased a parasol to stop the skin baking in its tracks.

After some bean cakes which have a sort of play-doh texture, but are nonetheless delicious (how I'm sure my 3 year old self actually thought play-doh tasted) we headed home where I continued to formulate my new story idea. There's nothing more exciting than working out a new story. Your imagination and creativity get to flow and if you add a little music to the mix (let's go with M83's Midnight City) and it's a truly magical experience. There's so much about the Japanese culture that's rich, and thrilling, and inspiring...however, the realization that I'm already deep in the process of writing two separate books, book 5 of The Protectors and a vampire book that I hope to have up pretty soon. Side note, it's a vampire book, but its not a too typical vampire book - I promise. This means that my little Japanese inspired book will have to be put off for a while, but the outline is written down and waiting for me whenever I get the time to return to it.
It's amazing how just stepping out of your front door and attending a festival can inspire an entire book. The same can be said for going on a vacation or to a concert or even just a picnic in the park. Writers, all artists for that matter, can pick up so much inspiration from the world and people around them. Every day is a new day to come up with your next amazing idea...and that's pretty damn cool!
Till next time my wonderful readers...thank you...I luv ya!
